The 2k1's conclude their 2011 season this weekend against the Indy Racers and former Baron, Sammy Bedich. Unbeaten the last six games, the boys look to continue their winning ways before practicing through March in preparation for tryouts in April.
In a battle for first place in the Tier 1 Elite League, the 2k1’s squared off against unbeaten Belle Tire. Belle’s only blemish was a 4-4 tie at the hands of the Barons in December. Unfortunately for the 2k1’s, Belle came ready, controlling the play both games cruising to 7-2 and 8-4 wins.
Next up was a trip to Columbus to face the Bluejackets. In the opener, the 2k1’s struggled early before hitting their stride and pulling away with a 4-2 win. The nightcap saw the Barons scoring early and often, cruising to a 7-0 victory. The team returned to Columbus the following weekend for the last Tier 1 Showcase of the season. After a decisive 8-1 win over the Milwaukee Admirals, the team faced a strong Victory Honda team needing a win to keep pace in the league standings. Trailing 1-0 for over two periods, the Barons scored 3 unanswered goals to come away with the victory. On Sunday, the team jumped out to an early lead on route to a 6-1 win over the Madison Capitals. The last game of the weekend saw the 2k1’s come away with an 8-2 win over a tough Chicago Fury squad.
The team finished the league season at 19-4-5, in second place behind Michigan State Champion Belle Tire.
